How an Anonymous Graffiti Artist Voted

Carl Hulse/The New York Times MIDTERM ELECTIONS

Alaska’s Senate election may still be somewhat in dispute back home but the result is written in stone in Washington – literally.

Wet cement on a sidewalk alongside Senator Lisa Murkowski’s house on Capitol Hill evidently proved irresistible for one final write-in for the Republican lawmaker.

After some sleuthing, the senator discovered that a young family friend had taken it upon himself to memorialize the instructions given to Alaskan voters who wanted to support Ms. Murkowski with a write-in vote after she lost to a Tea Party candidate in the primary: “Fill it in. Write it in. Lisa Murkowski.”

The idea was to make sure that voters filled in a bubble next to the write-in line on the ballot before writing in her name.

The Republican candidate, Joe Miller, has gone to court to challenge the election results, but substantially trails Ms. Murkowski in the vote count.

Should she hold on to her seat as appears likely, Ms. Murkowski can now be reminded of the campaign each times she strolls her own walk.

Lisa Murkowski’s Write-In Campaign Gets Boost From Alaska Court Ruling

Off again, on again for Lisa Murkowski.
